Is writing an essay about religion OK?

The main danger with these essays is that you'll come across as judgmental, closed-minded, or dogmatic, so whether or not you should choose this subject depends on how well you can avoid those pitfalls. Some say it's one of those "taboo topics," but it's worked for others in the past. Writing about religion can demonstrate important personal qualities: your values, what drives you, how you see the world, etc... (just the thing admissions committees are looking for). However, make sure you get beyond clichés about the subject and show that you've thought deeply about it.
